MaxXi

MAXXI MUSEO NAZIONALE DELLE ARTI DEL XXI SECOLO, ROME (2009)

This innovative museum has just been opened to the public last November. The building is designed by the Iraqi Zaha Hadid, who was the first woman to get a Pritzker Prize.

Th project includes two institutions: The Maxxi Art and Arechitecture, both dedicated to the promotion of arts and architecture through the formation of a collectionof the study and dissemination of the artistic movement of today.

The building at first glanceseems rather low. However if we move carefully we can see the dynamism of the museum. Apart from the exterior winding forms, the interiror is mobile.A monumental starcase ascends to become lost in a narrow crack. Hadid has created a flexible system of movable panels that can conveniently divide the interior space.

Th completion of the museum is the proof that this city is no longer allergic to new projects, and is a reproach to those who see Rome as a catalog ancient relics for students or tourist.

Hadid has built for years works that demostrate that its architecture is much more than glamour, and MaxXi is one of these creations.
